About this piece
The Purefold, in detail
The Purefold is the vertical one of our two minimalist wallets. It folds once along the short side, so cards sit upright and slide out from the top, and it is narrow enough to sit in a front pocket or a shirt pocket without printing through. It holds a few cards and a folded note, which is exactly what it should hold. This is the coffee version.
How it is made
Cut from 100% full grain cow leather with a crazy horse finish, skived by hand at the fold so it closes flat, lined in calf, and closed with a saddle stitch in waxed linen thread. Two needles through every hole: a saddle stitch holds even if one thread wears through, which is why it is the construction used on the leather goods that last.
What goes in it
Three to five cards and a folded note or two. If you want the same idea laid out horizontally, the Maverick is the other minimalist. If you carry more than five cards, the Regal or Kingsmann bifold is the next size up. The folds are compared in bifold vs trifold vs minimalist.
What it does with wear
The coffee crazy horse surface darkens where you grip it and lightens at the fold and corners, and because a minimalist wallet is handled every time you pay, the Purefold shows its patina within weeks. Scratches in the wax rub out with a thumb. Wipe it dry monthly and condition it twice a year; see the leather care guide.

How it is made
Crazy horse leather, stitched by hand
Every piece is cut from full hides by local artisans. The waxed surface marks and darkens with use, so no two pieces age the same way.
- 01The material
We buy whole hides and reject about a third. What is left is graded by hand for grain, thickness and stretch.
- 02The cutting
Straps are cut along the spine where the hide is tightest, so a belt holds its shape instead of curling.
- 03The stitching
One row of saddle stitch, two needles, waxed linen thread. It cannot unravel the way a machine seam can.
- 04The finish
Edges bevelled, sanded, burnished four times, sealed with beeswax. Then the buckle goes on and it is checked.
