The Nova is the one belt that works with everything in a wardrobe. One face is black, the other brown, and a swivel buckle turns the strap over in a second, so the same belt goes with a dark suit in the morning and a blue jean in the evening. It is the belt we send out most, and the one most often bought as a gift because sizing is the only decision.

How it is made

The strap is cut in one piece from 100% full grain cow leather with a crazy horse finish, 3.5 mm thick, along the spine of the hide where the fibres are tightest. That is why it holds its shape instead of curling after a few months of wear. The edges are bevelled, sanded and burnished, then sealed with beeswax. The buckle is solid and sits on a removable screw post, so it can be swapped or the belt shortened from the buckle end by any leather shop.

What it does with wear

Crazy horse leather carries its colour in a wax layer that moves when it is bent or rubbed. The brown face lightens at the edges and darkens where the buckle sits; the black face takes on a soft shine. Scratches show pale and most rub out with a thumb. In a year the Nova looks like a belt that has been lived in, which is the point of buying full grain.

Size and fit

Sizes 30 to 44, even sizes only. A Stagr size is the distance from the buckle bar to the hole you fasten, so measure a belt you already wear and round to the nearest even number, or take your trouser size and add two.
