About this piece
The Maverick, in detail
The Maverick is a card holder for a front pocket: three to five cards and a folded note or two, laid out horizontally, and nothing else. It is for men who pay by card and phone and keep a few hundred rupees for the rickshaw and the chai, and it is the least expensive way into handmade full grain leather. This is the brown version.
How it is made
Cut from 100% full grain cow leather with a crazy horse finish, lined in calf so the slots stretch to your cards and then hold, and closed with a saddle stitch in waxed linen thread. On a piece this small every stitch is visible, which is why it is done by hand with two needles rather than on a machine; a saddle stitch does not unravel if one thread wears through.
What goes in it
A CNIC, two or three bank cards and a folded note. That limit is the point of a minimalist wallet: it stops you carrying the receipts and expired cards that make a bifold fat. If you carry more than five cards or a stack of cash, a bifold suits you better. How to choose a wallet settles it in three questions.
What it does with wear
A card holder is handled more than any other wallet, so the Maverick ages fastest. The brown surface darkens where your thumb pushes the cards out and lightens at the corners within weeks. Scratches rub out with a thumb. A dry wipe once a month and a touch of leather balm twice a year keep it going for years.

How it is made
Crazy horse leather, stitched by hand
Every piece is cut from full hides by local artisans. The waxed surface marks and darkens with use, so no two pieces age the same way.
- 01The material
We buy whole hides and reject about a third. What is left is graded by hand for grain, thickness and stretch.
- 02The cutting
Straps are cut along the spine where the hide is tightest, so a belt holds its shape instead of curling.
- 03The stitching
One row of saddle stitch, two needles, waxed linen thread. It cannot unravel the way a machine seam can.
- 04The finish
Edges bevelled, sanded, burnished four times, sealed with beeswax. Then the buckle goes on and it is checked.
