Leather wallet prices in Pakistan: what you actually pay for at each level
From Rs 500 market wallets to Rs 10,000 boutique pieces: what changes in the leather, the stitching and the lining at each price, and where handmade full grain sits.

Search "leather wallet price in Pakistan" and you will see everything from Rs 400 to Rs 15,000 described with the same word, leather. The price differences are real and they come from four things: the grade of leather, how it is stitched, what the slots are lined with, and who is between the maker and you. Here is what you get at each level, so you can decide what is worth paying for.
Rs 300 to Rs 800: PU and "leather look"
Market stalls and the cheapest online listings. These are polyurethane or PVC over a fabric backing, sometimes with a thin layer of leather dust bonded on so the label can say leather. They look fine for a month. Then the coating cracks at the fold and the edges peel, because there is no fibre structure underneath. If a listing says "leather" at this price without saying which leather, it is this.
Rs 800 to Rs 1,500: split and "genuine" leather
Real leather, but the lower layers of the hide. When a hide is split, the top layer with the grain is sold as full grain or top grain, and the fibrous layers underneath are coated and embossed with a fake grain. The trade term for that lower material is "genuine leather", which sounds like a quality claim and is the opposite. It does not develop a patina and the coating wears through at the corners in a year or two. Most wallets in this bracket are machine stitched with a lock stitch, which runs when one thread breaks.
Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000: full grain, handmade, sold direct
This is where the leather changes. Full grain is the top of the hide, grain intact, and it is the only grade that ages instead of wearing out. Small workshops in Sialkot, Gujranwala and Lahore make wallets in this bracket and sell them online without a shop between them and the customer, which is why full grain can be had for the price that a branded split leather wallet costs in a mall.
What to check at this price: that the leather is named, full grain cow or full grain buffalo; that the stitching is a saddle stitch, which looks slightly slanted and is done by hand with two needles; and that the card slots are lined in leather, not fabric. Stagr wallets are in this bracket, from Rs 1,740 for a minimalist to Rs 3,400 for a long wallet, and tick all three: 100% full grain cow leather with a crazy horse finish, saddle stitched in waxed linen, lined in calf, made in our own workshop in Gujranwala. See the wallet range.
Rs 4,000 to Rs 10,000: established brands and boutiques
Pakistan has a few long standing leather brands with shops in the big cities. The leather is usually good, often top grain or full grain, and the finishing is clean. What you are paying for above the previous bracket is mainly the shop, the staff, the packaging and the name. If the brand matters to the person receiving the gift, it is worth it. If the wallet matters, the previous bracket gets you the same hide for less.
Rs 10,000 and up: imported
International brands, imported through official channels or grey market. Prices include duty and the brand's own margin. Leather quality varies wildly here; some famous names use coated leather that would be mid range in Pakistan. Buy for the name, not the hide.
Where the money goes in a handmade wallet
- The hide. Full grain costs several times what split leather does, and a wallet uses the cleanest part of it.
- Hand stitching. A saddle stitched bifold takes an hour or more at the bench. A machine does it in minutes.
- Skiving. Thinning the leather at every fold by hand so the wallet lies flat. Cheap wallets skip this, which is why they spring open.
- Lining. Calf lining costs more than fabric and lasts far longer.
- Edges. Bevelled, sanded, burnished and sealed, rather than painted over.
How to not overpay
Ask three questions of any listing: which leather, which stitch, which lining. A seller who can answer all three plainly is selling a real wallet. A seller who answers "pure leather" or "imported leather" is not telling you anything. Then compare the price with the brackets above. For a wallet you will carry daily for five to ten years, the full grain handmade bracket is the best value in the market, and it is the bracket Stagr was built to sit in. If you want to confirm the leather with your own hands when it arrives, use the six checks in this guide, and if you are still choosing a shape, read bifold vs trifold vs minimalist.
